Blogs I read series

Published: 26 August 2007 by CA

I am "CA" Atreya (PMP, MBA), the author of this blog. I help businesses in Atlantic Canada achieve their BHAG successfully. You may subscribe to this blog using a feed reader (RSS).

Here is a time saver. Often times you just do not have the time to hunt for the information. With so many blogs out there, which ones do you read; which ones provide real value? As I browse the web, I come across a number of outstanding blogs that I subscribe to and read regularly. I am going to share them with you.

But as I look down my feed reader, I realized that there was no way I could include all of them in one post - the list is just too big. So I am going to list them in groups of five. I hope to eventually cover them all in this series and WHY you should also be reading them.

  • Be Excellent by Skip Reardon. Skip typically writes about strategy execution - a very very important topic to learn and understand if you want to be successful. Their target is very specific - “Helping the best small businesses to pursue enduring excellence.” So if you are a small business leader without the commitment and the will to change - do not contact them. They will be unable to help you.
  • BIG marketing for small business by Ranjan Sodhi. I discovered Ranjan’s blog quite by accident. One of the things I like about Ranjan’s blog is his clean and easy to read layout. Rajan outlines “common and uncomment marketing ideas that help small business connect BIG with their customers.” I think the operating word is “MARKETING” - not sales. You can read up on everything marketing - from advertising to Web 2.0 to public relations.
  • Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk. The blog’s objective is “advice at the intersection of work and life”. But I am sure you knew that. Intriguing - is how I would describe her columns. If you are a small business leader, you cannot afford to miss the thought process of Gen Y, who are poised to take over much of the jobs that baby boomers will leave behind within the next decade. Ignore these issues at your own peril.
  • Small Business Transitions by Greg Balanko-Dickson. The downside (I think) of offering full feeds is that readers tend not to click through to the blog. I was pleasantly surprised at the blog redesign. I love it, Greg. Even if you are not a fitness buff, you should regularly read Greg’s blog or what he calls “Your small business fitness centre”
  • N2Growth by Mike Myatt. As a small business leader, do you surround yourself with “yes-people” or with people who will hold up the proverbial mirror and tell you to do the right things? Mike is brutally honest when offering his comments on corporate growth; comments that make you think about your business and how you going about growing it.
