I am a Bookkeeper and what I have encountered is that many small companies are not hiring Bookkeepers to save money and when they are audited, or present the returns late and get big penalities and interest from CRA, then they realize that they need to keep the records in order. I recently took a chanlenging task to put together 3 small companies, yet sucessful, with 1.5 M in profit in a short period of time, and took me 6 month to audit, sort out all the purchase receipts, post all the expenses, post and reconcile payroll, cash payments, reconcile banks accounts, G/HST reconciliation, write to CRA to adjust all the RT-PR accounts. I worked for another company in recevership and I learned a lot with the CRA auditors that stay with me for 3 month, auditing 4 years of tons of papers, the story goes on.. just got another job and it is the same story? Please advice the samall business people to hire a good Bookkeeper. Thanks for your advice. Cecilia

Thank you for this post. I know its been a while since this has been posted but would you happen to have an updated spreadsheet? I would be glad to have one with some typical figures for an entry level position in Customer Service.

I think that you have done a great job at showing businesses how much it costs to hire an employee. It helps make the point for my industry - Virtual Assistants. We are private contractors and when you work it all out, we are cheaper than in-house employees.
