Missing the about us

CA

The Carnival of Small Business Issues is hosted here every week. Bloggers from all over submit their posts to promote their blog and (I hope) to project themselves as a thought expert in their field. Before I read the posts I look at the “About” page. In some cases the blog is missing the About page while in others I find the following:

“This is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can create as many pages like this one or sub-pages as you like and manage all of your content inside of WordPress.”

As a potential reader of your blog, I am put off by a lack of professionalism. I want to know who you are and why should I spend time reading to what you write. It does not have to be your life history out there. You might just want to answer two basic questions in the about page.

  1. What is the blog about?
  2. What value are your offering to your readers? In short, why should someone spend time reading your articles?

Businesses can learn a lesson from this too. Even websites needs to have a purpose. Are you communicating that purpose to your prospects? More importantly, what value are you offering your prospects and why should they buy from you? You need to communicate that effectively.

There is enough of competition out there on services you offer. Make it easy on yourself by at least getting the basics right.
