Stock investment research - StockGuru.com

Do you invest in stocks? Are you the type who trades online? Do you do your own company research and valuation? If yes, then I am sure you have a list of websites you visit to gather information. Information, after all, is the key to successful investing. It is no secret that successful returns accrue over the long-term. At this point, I have yet another question to ask of you: Do you have any small cap stocks in your portfolio? If no, and if your risk appetite allows for it, you might want to consider adding them to your portfolio. Again, remember to view such investments as long-term investments.
Where to look for small cap business info
If this is not on your list of websites you visit yet, you might consider adding StockGuru.com to your list. Started by a Merrill Lynch alumnus, John Pentony, StockGuru focuses on small cap stocks. Stockguru has a team of researchers and writers who work towards collecting information about publicly traded companies listed on the NASDAQ, NYSE, AMEX and OTC.
What I like about StockGuru is their focus on small cap companies. It is really hard to find good reliable information on such organizations and they seem to catering to this niche quite nicely. They also include large cap companies where warranted.
Premium membership
Depending on your membership level you can receive up to 20 stock picks monthly. Premium members receive 20 stock picks monthly, 40 “honorable†picks (as alternatives to the top 20) and the “Darksideâ€; i.e. short-selling picks (Not for OTC stocks).
Their pricing may appeal serious investors - $299 for a lifetime membership to their site. Such a perpetual pricing model is getting rarer by the day. I think this is a steal. For those who want a membership for just one year – it’s $199.
So what sort of information do they provide for each company
- Overview and overall estimated revenues
- Product lines and estimated revenue/s for each
- Management biographies
- Quotes and news: Includes charts – intraday, 5 day, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 2 years and 5 years (I think a candle-stick graph would be an awesome addition) along with volume. You can also see fundamentals such as yield, dividends, P/E ratio, etc. They depend on a third party to provide this information and hence it may not be available for all companies.
- Contact info
Free information
StockGuru, initially started off as a free service to their email subscribers and this service also continues. If you think you may be saving money – think again. Free subscribers receive stock picks about a week after they are introduced to paying members. But if you are a long term investor, then this is good value.
The one thing that turned me off was their “Thank you†page once you subscribed to their free list. I had to use the browser’s back button to navigate their site. A minor irritant, but important for website user experience nevertheless.
Overall I find it is a great resource for serious small cap investors.
